William Jewell students consistently earn high-profile national recognition:

  • In the period from 2006 to present, the College has claimed a Fulbright Scholar, four Goldwater Scholars, two Rhodes Scholar national finalists, three Truman Scholars, a National Institute of Health Fellow, a George J. Mitchell Scholarship, a Council of Independent Colleges American Graduate Fellowship finalist, a Point Foundation Scholar, a James Madison Fellow, a Gilman Scholar, a USA Today Scholar and eight Teach For America corps members.  | Read More

Institutional Accolades
William Jewell College is enjoying an increasingly high profile as an institution of stature among quality regional liberal arts colleges. Among many recent honors:

  • U.S. News & World Report ranked William Jewell at number 140 among the country's national liberal arts colleges in its 2013 edition of “America’s Best Colleges.”
  • Jewell was named by The Princeton Review as one of “The Best 377 Colleges” in its 2013 edition. Only about 15% of the four-year colleges in the U.S. appear in the student survey-based rankings.
  • Forbes Magazine listed William Jewell among “America’s Best Colleges” in its 2012 report. Jewell was ranked in the number 262 slot out of the country's top 650 institutions, and at number 196 among private colleges. The rankings represent the top 20% of all U.S. undergraduate institutions.
  • Washington Monthly magazine named William Jewell College to its list of nationally ranked liberal arts colleges that contribute to the public good. Jewell claimed the No. 74 position, moving up from its No. 145 rank last year. In the category of community service participation, Jewell ranked No. 30 nationally.
  • Kiplinger's Personal Finance named Jewell among its top 200 best values in private colleges for 2011-12. The publication cited Jewell's high four-year graduation rate, low average student debt at graduation, good student-to-faculty ratio, excellent on-campus resources and overall great value.

Distinctive Programs

  • The internationally recognized Oxbridge Honors Program, supported by the Hall Family Foundation, combines British tutorial methods of instruction with a year of study in Oxford or Cambridge.
  • William Jewell’s Nonprofit Leadership major is one of only 13 undergraduate programs nationwide.
  • The innovative Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry major (ACT-In) allows students to graduate with a secondary major by completing the liberal arts core plus three applied learning experiences. 
  • The Harriman-Jewell Series is considered the Midwest’s premier program in the performing arts. Luciano Pavarotti made his international solo recital debut as part of the series, and each year’s schedule includes the best and brightest dance and theater companies, orchestras, ensembles and recitalists. 
  • The Pryor Leadership Studies Program includes course work, community service projects and internships that help students enhance their leadership skills in a variety of settings.

Jewell students enjoy all the amenities of a small-town campus setting with big-city access. Just 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City, the 200-acre campus is perched above the historic town of Liberty among the rolling hills of western Missouri.
